West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has joined the fight to keep Leuchie House, the respite care home open.
Leuchie House is one of very few establishments in Scotland providing respite care to MS sufferers and their families. Many families from East Dunbartonshire benefit from its services as do other families from the West of Scotland. The home is run by the MS Society but it has announced that it is withdrawing its support and plans to close the home in November.
"The MS Society will have its own reasons for getting out of providing respite care for MS sufferers. I understand it is also closing three other facilities in England. Leuchie House provides such a unique service the current management and those closely associated with the House must be allowed sufficient time to seek a new sponsor for the House. Setting a closure date of November makes this almost impossible.
"I am happy to join the campaign first to get the MS Society to extend the deadline by at least a further six months and then to seek another charitable sponsor or care provider to take over the running of the home.
"The current users, the dedicated staff and all associated with Leuchie deserve a chance to keep this invaluable service open The MS Society should give the campaign to save Leuchie House every assistance and postponing the threatened date of closure by at least six months would be a first step."
