FINNIE STILL QUESTIONS SNP COMMITMENT TO EMISSION TARGETS

Written by Ross Finnie on Mon 1st Feb 2010

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has been left unconvinced by the Energy Minister's response to his letter concerning the Hunterston Power Plant Proposal.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

"My concerns over the Hunterston Proposals have not been put at ease by the Minister's response.

"Even if as the Minister suggests that Hunterston only runs at 60/65% capacity then it would still create a minimum of 4.4 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions per annum, potentially up until 2025 when full Carbon Capture technology is to be fitted.

"4.4 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide are still 4.4 million more tonnes per year than there was before and will greatly affect the SNP's emission targets."
