DOCTORS MUST FOLLOW NURSING EXAMPLE ON HYGIENE- FINNIE

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has called on Doctors to follow nurse's examples on hand hygiene.

Rates of hospital superbugs are falling in Scotland with MRSA levels at there lowest level to date and rate of Clostridium Difficile also down. The hand Hygiene targets show nurses with a compliance rate of 95% and 84% for Doctors, the target rate is a 90% compliance rate.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

"These results are very disappointing Doctors, as senior medical professionals, should be leading by example on hygiene issues.

"It is unacceptable that Doctors have a compliance rate more than 10 per cent behind that of nurses.

"Cases of MRSA and C Diff will not be eradicated in Inverclyde Royal Hospital until Doctors start to follow the hygiene examples set by nurses who are repeatedly receiving good results in hygiene surveys."
