ROBERT BROWN- CLOSE RACE IN LEADERSHIP ELECTIONWritten by Robert Brown on Fri 15th Aug 2008
ROBERT BROWN- CLOSE RACE IN LEADERSHIP ELECTION Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Robert Brown MSP predicts a close finish in the contest for the Leadership of the Scottish Liberal Democrats. Following packed hustings meetings in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dunfermline, Robert Brown believes that Ross Finnie must now be viewed as the number one choice for Leader. Commenting Mr Brown said: "I have long believed that Ross Finnie has the judgement and authority to lead the Scottish Liberal Democrats with style and flair. "Throughout this campaign I have been struck by the high levels of support for Ross's Leadership bid, particularly after last weeks hustings in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dunfermline where I was told on all sides that members were hugely impressed by Ross during his speech and under questioning. "After Ross's excellent performances at the hustings more and more support is switching to Ross. Tavish Scott may have been seen by the media as the early favourite but I think it is now too close to call. Ross Finnie's performance in the campaign has put him in the frame as the number one choice for Leader. "I think there will be a tight and exciting finish to the contest. Ross and his team are working hard to secure every possible vote. "Ross is a politician of deep Liberal principle and he would be a superb leader of our Party. Liberal Democrats want and need a Leader who can inspire and motivate, but can also reach out to the wider public with authority. That's what they will get with Ross Finnie. Ends Notes to Editors Date and time of final Hustings Inverness- 10.30am on Saturday 16th august in the Beaufort Hotel, Culduthel Road Aberdeen- 4pm on Saturday 16th august in the Craigiebuckler Parish Church Hall, Craigiebuckle Road.
