SNP CLASS SIZE NON-EXISTENT PLEDGE FURTHER EXPOSED-FINNIE

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has stated that the SNPs non-existent class size pledge has been further exposed after opposition councillors have forced their SNP-led administration to call on the Scottish Government to ask for millions of pounds to reduce class sizes after it lost a second vote on the issue.

Labour councillors with support from the SSP and Independent members, defeated the SNP group in West Dunbartonshire over a report on the costs of delivering a reduction in primary 1 to 3 class sizes to 18. After the vote on Wednesday night, the council's education convenor, May Smillie, will be tasked with seeking a meeting with the Scottish Government Education Minister Fiona Hyslop to ask for the cash.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

"The loss in this vote is further exposure of the non-existent class size pledge of the SNP.

"The SNP Council in West Dunbartonshire and the SNP government in Holyrood, need to provide an explanation why there key election promise is yet again failing to be fulfilled.

"The class size pledge was the key election promise of the SNP and many parents across West Dunbartonshire voted SNP because of it. West Dunbartonshire Council like the rest of Scotland have witnessed yet another example of the non-existent election promises by the SNP.
