West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie was disappointed at proposals announced to close the Cylnder Branch Post Office in Helensburgh. Helensburgh is already losing one busy Post Office in East Princes Street which is due to close on the 25th of February.
Due to feedback received during local public consultation Post Office Ltd has amended its proposal by deciding not to proceed with the proposed closure of Post Offices in- Cultenhove in Stirling, Auchenback in Barrhead, Kelvindale and Hyndland in Glasgow.
"I am very disappointed at the proposal to close another Post Office in Helensburgh. Helensburgh is already losing one busy Post Office on February 25th when East Princes Street closes. The closure of Cylnder Branch Post Office is a further blow to the community.
"The closure of Post Offices has a detrimental effect on the entire community, especially OAPs who will struggle to relocate to another branch. The closure of 2 busy Post Offices is going to put undue pressure in the remaining Post Offices, increasing their customer bases dramatically, which will no doubt affect the level of service provided.
"I understand the reasoning behind the Network Change Scheme, but I do not support it. I am disappointed to see busy Post Offices all over Scotland close to meet the streamlining goals of the Network Change Programme.
