FINNIE DISAPPOINTED BY EXECUTIVE STATEMENT (06.06.07)

Scottish Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Ross Finnie MSP has commented on the Scottish Health Secretary's statement on the future of Accident and Emergency Units at Ayr and Monklands hospitals.

Speaking after the statement, Mr Finnie said:

"Professor Kerr specifically concluded that providing core admission services and sub-specialist services at every Accident and Emergency unit was not sustainable.

"By making today's announcement, the Cabinet Secretary has essentially overturned the conclusion of the Kerr Report.

"I am disappointed that the Cabinet Secretary did not take the opportunity to present the evidence she has used to come to this decision to Parliament today."

Ends.
