HEALTH BOARDS MUST HAVE THE RESOURCES TO SCRAP ASCS - FINNIE

HEALTH BOARDS MUST HAVE THE RESOURCES TO SCRAP ASCS - FINNIE (29.05.07)

Commenting on the Scottish Health Secretary's announcement that the Executive will abolish hidden waiting lists, Scottish Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Ross Finnie MSP said:

"I welcome the SNP's announcement that it will honour the previous Executive's pledge to scrap Availability Status Codes (ASCs) in 2007.

"I will be seeking assurances from the Health secretary that she will allocate sufficient resources to enable Health Boards to remove ASCs, making the waiting times system more transparent and open but not unnecessarily bureaucratic.

"The SNP should reject the Howat Report's recommended £60million saving in health expenditure, which would jeopardise further progress.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats remain committed to cutting waiting times and will work constructively with the new administration to achieve faster treatment for patients."
